Our Story

Our Aim

Speech Rocket’s aim is to provide easy speech therapy strategies to support children’s language development around the world. Convinced of the importance of language in the early years as the foundation for future academic and emotional development. We wish for every parent to have access to the strategies and research to help children reach their full potential.

The Idea

Speech Rocket started out as my Master’s research, I asked can text delivered strategies improve children’s language and parent child interactions. The results were brilliant, children constructed longer sentences and increased their number of child initiated conversations during a two week period. The text program has since been turned into an app and is available on the iTunes Store and Google Play Store, so every parent can start practising the strategies today.

Why?

Children with a language delay have been found to have more behaviour issues and find it harder to access education. There’s been an increase in the number of children are starting school with delayed language. Wait times to see a speech therapist can be lengthy. I wanted to give parents the opportunity to have the strategies from when their children are young and to start using some strategies whilst waiting to see a therapist.

Who are we?

Speech Rocket was created by myself Jade Turnbull BaHons, MSc and Paul Walker a creative developer. I’ve applied 6 years of professional and academic study and research while working with children in a variety of situations in schools, nurseries, homes, refugee camps, homeless shelter and orphanages. Paul helped turn a research project in reality so all parents can access it. He has worked on multiple apps including Little Ears Radio and FIFA Eat for Goals. Paul is also a regular volunteer at scouts and an all round community cheerleader with a heart of gold.
